Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Anchor?
Anchor is a Native- and woman-owned brand that creates therapeutic activities for cognitive wellness, designed for adults living with dementia, brain injury, stroke, intellectual disabilities, and other cognitive changes.
Our puzzles, activity books, and conversation tools are made to support meaningful connection between individuals and the caregivers beside them.
Who are your products for?
Our products are especially designed for:
-
Adults living with dementia or Alzheimer’s
-
Adults recovering from brain injury or stroke
-
Adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities
-
Older adults who want gentle cognitive stimulation
-
Family caregivers, therapists, and staff in senior living, adult day, supported living, and community programs
If you support someone with changing cognition and want activities that feel adult, respectful, and manageable, you’re in the right place.
How do your activities support cognitive wellness?
Each product is intentionally designed to offer cognitive stimulation without overwhelm.
We focus on clear visuals, graded difficulty, and conversation prompts that engage memory, attention, language, and problem-solving in a way that feels like everyday life - not a test.
How are your products different from typical “brain games” or kids’ puzzles?
Many options on the market are either too childish or too complex for adults living with cognitive changes.
Our activities use adult themes and imagery, larger pieces or simplified layouts when helpful, age-appropriate, and easier to facilitate.
How do I choose the right activity or level?
Consider:
-
Current abilities (fine motor skills, attention span, vision)
-
How easily the person gets frustrated or fatigued
-
Whether they prefer visual, verbal, or hands-on activities
In general, start a little easier than you think, and move up if they seem engaged and comfortable.
Can your activities be used in memory care, senior living, and community programs?
Absolutely. Our tools are used in memory care communities, assisted living and adult family homes, adult day programs, supported living settings, and tribal/community-based programs.
They work well for small groups, 1:1 sessions, and family visits, and can be integrated into existing activity calendars.
Do your products work for early, middle, or late-stage dementia?
Our collection is best suited for early to mid-stage dementia and for adults with mild to moderate cognitive challenges.
Some items may still be meaningful in later stages - especially conversation cards - but they often need more hands-on support from caregivers.
Can family members and children use these together with their loved one?
Absolutely. Shared activities can reduce anxiety on both sides and make visits feel more natural.
Conversation cards, simple puzzles, and gentle games are especially helpful for bridging generations and giving family members something concrete to do together.
How often should we use cognitive activities?
Research and practice suggest that regular, daily engagement is ideal, even if it’s just a few minutes at a time.
Short, consistent sessions (for example, 10–30 minutes once or twice a day) often work better than long, infrequent sessions and help create a comforting routine.
Are your products clinically tested or therapist-approved?
Our activities are informed by current understandings of dementia care, cognitive stimulation, and mental wellness, and they are created by a caregiver with lived experience.
Many occupational therapists, activity directors, and program staff choose our products for their practicality and dignity-focused design, though they should not be considered a replacement for professional therapy.
Are your products culturally inclusive?
As a Native- and woman-owned business, we are committed to reflecting and respecting diverse stories and communities.
We aim to avoid stereotypes and infantilizing imagery and are actively growing offerings that better serve a range of cultural backgrounds and community settings.
